From Green River, Utah, DALLYN VAIL BAYLES is a versatile actor, singer, recording artist, director and educator. Known for his dynamic, moving performances on stage and screen, he has portrayed iconic roles such as the Phantom, Raoul and André in the Broadway touring company of The Phantom of the Opera, and Enjolras on the Broadway tour of Les Misérables, directed by Jason Moore. Internationally, he performed in the China premiere production of Les Misérables starring Colm Wilkinson.

 

Bayles’ industry reading credits include playing the lead role of Adam in the New York City presentation of Children of Eden at the Beckett Theatre with Stephen Schwartz and Norm Lewis, and directed by Scott Schwartz. He also worked with Frank Wildhorn and Jack Murphy playing the villain Villefort in the Tuacahn New Works series reading of The Count of Monte Cristo

 

Performing a diverse range of characters, Bayles has starred in numerous regional theater productions nationwide, including Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd, Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music (Tuacahn Amphitheatre & Sundance Summer Theatre), D’Ysquith Family in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (Hale Centre Theatre), Archibald Craven in The Secret Garden (Village Theatre & Hale Center Theater Orem), Emile de Becque in South Pacific, King Triton in The Little Mermaid, Billy Crocker in Anything Goes, Chauvelin in The Scarlet Pimpernel, Edward Rochester in Jane Eyre, Father in Ragtime, Godfrey Cass in the world premiere production of The Weaver of Raveloe (A.R.T.’s Oberon Stage), Count Chandon in Phantom (Fullerton Civic Light Opera), and Pharaoh in Aida (Fiddlehead Theatre). At the Boston Conservatory, Bayles performed the roles of Sid Sorokin in The Pajama Game, John Wilkes Booth in Assassins, and Jud Fry in Oklahoma!. In addition to Broadway musicals, he has performed leading roles in several original stage productions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including the 2002 Winter Olympics production Light of the World (performed before a quarter-million audience members over two weeks), the Nauvoo Pageant, and Savior of the World.

 

Bayles has made notable appearances on film portraying historical figures like Brigham Young in the independent feature His Name is Green Flake (winner of the Best Film Award at the Los Angeles Film Awards, Venice Film Awards and London Independent Film Awards), Pontius Pilate in Lamb of God: The Concert Film, and Hyrum Smith in the feature films Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration and Emma Smith: My Story. Bayles received a Best Actor Award for his performance as the title character in the short film The Stranger. Other film credits include leading roles in various “Mormon Messages” short films, and three Liken the Scriptures series musical films.

 

As a concert soloist, Bayles has graced world-renowned performing halls (including David Geffen Hall at The Lincoln Center, The Music Center at Strathmore and Carnegie Hall) singing in various concert programs alongside distinguished performers, musicians, and composers, such as the Tabernacle Choir, Frank Wildhorn, Rebecca Luker, Matthew Morrison, Sierra Boggess, Ashley Brown, Tori Kelly, Colbie Caillat, Hayley Westenra, Kurt Bestor, Jenny Oaks Baker, and the Utah Symphony.

 

Bayles toured the country as the narrator and tenor in Jenny Oaks Baker and Kurt Bestor’s oratorio The Redeemer. He starred as one of the featured performers in the staged concert production of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber at the Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City performing with Tony-winner Lisa Hopkins Seegmiller, David Osmond and Lexi Walker, and directed by Louanne Madorma. The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square has featured Bayles as a guest soloist in several concerts and productions, including their multiple award-winning Sunday broadcast Music and the Spoken Word, the Deer Valley Music Festival, the RootsTech International Conference with Oscar “Andy” Hammerstein III, and the 85th birthday celebration of Thomas S. Monson, past President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

 

A sought-after recording and voice over artist, Bayles has produced three solo albums, including a best of Broadway album (Some Enchanted Evening), and two Christian inspirational albums (Song of Redeeming Love on the Shadow Mountain Records label, and the award-winning Prayer). He also recorded the duo Christmas album O Holy Night with Mindy Smoot Robbins, arranged and produced by Kurt Bestor. Bayles' recordings are featured in the films 17 Miracles and Ephraim’s Rescue, and in several music videos that have garnered millions of views.

 

Bayles was privileged to work with renowned new-age pianist and composer David Lanz recording his duet “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” with international singer Kristin Amarie. He has also recorded solo vocals on albums featuring the works of Kurt Bestor, Jenny Oaks Baker, Lex de Azevedo, Newell Dayley, the Lyceum Philharmonic, and many others.

 

In addition to his extensive performing career, Bayles is an accomplished director (including the film recording of Sherlock the Musical, and BYU’s main stage production of Into the Woods), acting and voice instructor, and choir director. He holds an MFA degree in Musical Theatre from The Boston Conservatory and a BFA degree in Music Dance Theatre from Brigham Young University. Bayles lives in western Virginia with his wife and children where he works as a professor of theatre at Southern Virginia University.

 

Bayles’ artistic excellence and contributions to the arts have been recognized through the receipt of prestigious awards including the Utah Governor’s Performing Artist Award, the Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award from Brigham Young University and the SCERA’s Endowment for the Arts Star Award in Music.
